Maker's Fair and Highland Jazz Fest

The last two weekends have been wonderful!  Shreveport's art community has really come out to show their support.  Thank you to everyone who made it!

Firstly, the Texas Avenue Maker's Fair was great!  The weather may have been uncooperative, but the public really proved that this is an event they want to be at.  Even with the chilly temperatures and the drizzly, sometimes rainy, mess, the crowd was pretty steady.
Xeno stayed curled up in his bed for most of the show.  I'm not sure he really approved of the weather.

The next weekend was the Highland Jazz & Blues Festival.  The weather was much better, even if it was a little humid.  After lunch, things really got rollin' and I didn't get much of a break!  Xeno was a much happier camper and made quite a few doggie friends at this event.  People were out in droves with their whole families, pets included.

Next up is SRAC's December installment of UnScene December 14th!  Hope to see you all there!

The Pop-Up Market

I had so much fun at Fort Worth's Pop-Up Market yesterday.  It was definitely a scorcher, so the crown was kind of thin, but I met a bunch of new artists and made a few sales.

I got a lot of new ideas, as well.  I hope to have many more items in my inventory when I return in August.  I will be there for the monthly show from August through October.

Major kudos to the organizers of this new market!  They are awesome folks and very, very organized.  Set-up was super easy and the layout was very nice!  I can't wait to see this market take off and know that I was a part of the fist wave!!

Xeno was trying to escape the heat underneath my table!  He was a big hit at the show, amazing everyone with his ability to chill and check out the crowd.  He made a couple of new furry friends, as well as some of the human variety.  I will be getting him some sort of cool mat before the next summer show.  I'll also be looking for some ways to keep myself cool, too!!

The Texas Ave. Maker's Fair was amazing!  I did better than I ever would have expected!  Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event possible.  And thank you again to those who honored me by purchasing one of my works.  You all put smiles on my face!

I will have to work extra-hard to replace the inventory I sold before the next show in June.

I will be taking a short break before my wedding at the end of May, but you can expect me back in June.

My next show will be the Pop-Up Market on June 15 in Fort Worth, Texas!  This is a new monthly arts market that began last month.  I can't wait to check it out and become a part of it.  Check them out on Facebook and LIKE their page!  I know they would appreciate it.

It's been a few days, but don't think I haven't been productive!  There's a lot going on, including getting ready for my show in Fort Worth, The Funky Finds Spring Fling!  I can't wait, but there's still a lot to do!

I've been working on several pieces and here are some of the latest.

I'm on a roll!  I completed two canvases today!  I kinda love both of them.

This piece is on pages from H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds".  I am really digging the spiral text.  The spacing worked out pretty well.

This is the next piece in my "Alice in Wonderland" series.  This is my favorite text to work with.  It really lends itself to the imagination.  There have been so many interpretations of this book over the years, so it's very non-intimidating to work on.

After a crazy week last week I have finally gotten back into the swing of things.  I have several canvases ready for artwork.  I just needed a couple of detail pieces for them.  That's when these guys came out!

The earth graphic I designed for a "War of the Worlds" piece and the caterpillar is for a large "Alice in Wonderland" piece that I am doing.  I have a very large canvas to work on for my "show piece".

Day 1 of My Artistic Resolution

So, I am taking the advice of nearly every artist on the planet and attempting to do at least one piece of artwork everyday.  To motivate, I am beginning this project to share with everyone and, hopefully, encourage myself to work on my art as much as possible.

That bring said, we all know that we are our own worst critic, so I will start with my current observation that the coral in this painting looks like a cross between pizzas and pancakes.  Hmmm.  Maybe it's just the photograph.  Anyway, this is a painting I did on pages of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea".  The diving helmet was done with my Copic Sketch markers and the rest is acrylic paint additions.

Here's hoping that tomorrow will be just as, if not more, productive!
