About Me
I graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana in 2007 with a B.A. in Theatre. Art has always been a very large part of my life. Both of my parents are artists and I have been creating since I was old enough to hold a paintbrush. I took advantage of every art class that was available to me and when I began college, I started working in theatre. I found yet another passion, lighting. It was a new paintbrush and canvas, except this time, the canvas was the stage and the paint brushes were lights. It was amazing.
I am currently working on a new artistic endeavor. It involves re-purposing old book pages as works of art. The texture and warmth is brilliant. Look out for new projects and art frequently as I begin to show my art in local area events!
Artist's Statement
Several years ago I was asked to donate a piece for a charity event. I wanted to do something that combined my love of art with my passion for theatre. I created an art style that worked joined text and art using Shakespeare as my experiment. It was well received and I began expanding my style into more diverse subject matters, including many literary classics. I became selective with the texts that I used, selecting vintage books with nicely worn color and texture that created a brilliant background for my artwork. Using Copic markers and acrylic paint, I began designing colorful and intricate graphics to highlight my favorite aspects of the books I was working with.
I have found that my work draws in people of all different backgrounds. It grabs the attention of school children, who recently read many of the classics, and school teachers, alike. Of course, the book-lovers are fascinated by the background of pages and artwork. People seem to love having the option to display their love of books in a new and creative way.
